International Series on the Research of Learning and Instruction of Writing
The Studies in Writing series includes a range of publications, each of which discusses a significant theme in the broad field of studying writing and written composition in first, second and foreign languages, at school and at work.
New Volumes:
Volume 24 University Writing Selves and Texts in Academic Societies, published in February and examines new trends in the different theoretical perspectives (cognitive, social and cultural) and derived practises in the activity of writing in HE in Europe and the US.
Volume 25 in this series, Learning to Write Effectively Current Trends in European Research is due to publish in August and provides a detailed overview of current research in written text production. A series of short papers from the European Research on Learning to Write Effectively Network reflect issues in ‘early-years’ writing skills, teaching and learning, effective document design and tools for exploring the writing process.
Studies in Writing aims for multiple perspectives of writing, education and texts. The series provides a collection of theoretical and empirical insights into the foundations of writing, and learning and teaching processes in written composition. The series aims to cover theoretical issues, supported by both quantitative and qualitative empirical research and representing a wide range of nationalities. Studies in Writing provides a forum with research from established researchers, as well as contributions from young researchers. Fields of research covered are cognitive, socio-cognitive and developmental psychology, psycholinguistics, text linguistics, curriculum development and instructional science.
Each book focuses on a central theme from the international forum of writing research. This implies that each book will contain about 7 to 10 chapters (200-250 pages) around one theme. Monographs are also welcomed.
Studies in Writing is essential reading for all academics and researchers who are involved in the study of writing and the improvement of writing education and effective writing at work. The series:
• Acts as a forum for debate and the publication of papers which establish understandings of writing, text and writing education.
• Provides a unique opportunity for the exchange of peer reviewed knowledge on the widest extent of issues within the study of writing.
• Allows for the establishment of working networks of writing researchers from across the globe and from all disciplines involved in writing studies.
Studies in Writing particularly encourages academics and researchers to share their research with an international audience. Contributors from across the globe that focus on issues and research which will affect and inform writing studies are welcome to submit book proposals for consideration in the series.
The series encourages well-written articles with the focus on interdisciplinary, international and comparative standpoints on contemporary issues. Coverage includes, but is not restricted to:

"The Studies in Writing Series edited by Gert Rijlaarsdam is truly one of the most unique resources in the world on writing research. Individual volumes provide not only one of the best sources of the history of writing research but also an introduction to the contemporary issues still being investigated. The series is especially notable for providing easy access to the large and growing research literature on the cognitive and metacognitive processes of writing, the role of motivation in writing, and keyboarding and computer tools--not only during schooling but also in the adult workplace.
