The work of a librarian can be transformational. The role of the dynamic librarian involves thinking of change management as an integral part of the way that libraries are expanding to include unexpected challenges, services that might not be considered part of their portfolio and approaches to their work that are anything but traditional. The articles in this volume of Advances in Library Administration and Organization attest to that commitment to understand the process of change. The book will examine the challenges that working administrators face and discusses how to enable them to look more closely at their operations and to reconsider how to develop people and the organizations in which they work. Editorial Objectives of the series

Advances in Library Administration and Organization was initiated to publish longer, research quality studies of interest both to working library managers and scholars.

We are particularly interested in how libraries have been and should be managed. The series publishes thought-provoking articles relating to both innovative and time-tested methods that can be used to organize our work.

Provides a publication venue for those manuscripts that are typically longer than most journal articles but shorter than most books.

About the Editors

Del Williams currently teaches Higher Education Administration and Research Methods for Northcentral University, an online institution located in Prescott, Arizona. He retired in 2010 as a Professor Bibliography, Emeritus from the University of Akron in Ohio after a career spanning 35 years in library administration. He was the Dean of the Library at Akron for 14 years, and before that served as the Director of Libraries at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for 6 more. He also held administrative appointments at Western Illinois University and Washington and Lee University in Virginia. Williams has written extensively on topics relating to library administration and leadership, focusing on the impact of change on library organizations and has just finished co-editing his 18th volume of the annual Advances in Library Administration and Management, published by Emerald. He is working through the spring of 2011 as Fulbright Scholar in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Klaipeda University in Lithuania. He makes his home in Villa Rica, Georgia.

Janine Golden is a tenure track Assistant Professor teaching in the MLS distance education program at the School of Library and Information Studies, Texas Woman’s University, Denton, TX. Prior to assuming this position she worked as a State Library Program Specialist for the State Library and Archives of Florida; an Adjunct Instructor at the College of Information, Florida State University; and held various administrative positions in the Houston Public Library system. Golden's specific teaching interests concern the management/leadership in all types of libraries with areas of expertise in library leadership/management development, career development strategies, and the mentoring process. As a current day practitioner and educator, her research path concerns factors and strategies related to career development success for library emerging leaders. Dr. Golden has been recently elected 2011-2012 President of the American Library Association Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) with her term beginning July 1, 2011.
