Assessment and outcomes evaluation have become increasingly important in librarianship. Contexts for Assessment and Outcome Evaluation in Librarianship explores how the strategy has migrated to areas such as hiring, employee development, overall organizational successes, measuring the outcomes of projects and operational changes, and self assessment at the personal level. This growing emphasis is partly due to increasingly stringent requirements that funds are used effectively to improve services and operations. This book focuses on the successes and failures of assessment and outcomes evaluation in the various contexts in which these tools have been and will be used.

"Each topic is well covered with a firm research basis which in some cases is indeed an innovation for that subject. The volume is consistently edited and elegantly produced...It is well worth reading, to provoke reflection on one's own service and its context as much as for specific advice or ideas".

Mergers, Alliances, Collaborations and Partnerships vol 36 edited by Anne Woodsworth and W. David Penniman (2013 PUBLICATION)
While corporate mergers make headlines, similar efforts in library and information science are less vociferously touted. They are occurring however amongst libraries, degree programmes, and enterprises such as networks and consortia. Public libraries partner with community groups in order to strengthen the political clout of both. They are occurring as governments mandate consolidation of operations amongst agencies under their purview in order to reduce or curtail expenditures.
This volume of Advances in Librarianship seeks to provide a comprehensive review of the factors that lead to mergers and other alliances, the methods used to ensure effective and successful collaborations, and descriptions of the factors which contributed to less successful efforts at consolidation.
